| Well, pulled the gearbox out today..Wasnt even the rear main leaking..Grr..Was the sump leaking between the gasket and the block right underneath the crank..So whacked a heap of sealent around there and done up the bolts which were like finger tight, seems to have fixed it..Its also got an Exedy clutch disk in it,looks pretty new.Standard pressure plate though which has seen better days. The extra flywheel i got with the car is also different to the one on there, little smaller, so binned that one, gotta find another replacement soon because this ones got a crack through the ring gear.. |

could either go z32 items and get them machined to fit, or z31 items which would need to be bought in from america. remember that s3 turbos have a 250mm clutch & flywheel, which is 10mm larger than all na's and s1/2 turbos.. on international models atleast, who knows what they did to aussie ones lol.
i wish my car had a clutch lol. _________________ - My Zed - My Space - For Sale -

Looks like you've been busy Tim. I am glad it is getting the attention it deserves. 4 hrs to change the injectors, that sounds more like it. I knew something was up when you said you took your old ones off in 30min. Have you put your turbo or the intercooler in yet?
The prothane kit I bought online from http://www.thezstore.com/store/merchant.mvc?
the online store for motorsport auto. I think I got it for $140US?
If you guys ever need parts for the Z, check this site or even courtesy nissan. I found it alot cheaper to import parts from the US. I even got some parts from ebay, such as a crank angle sensor for about $40. It was an aftermarket piece but it was brand new. I started getting parts like this after going to a local Nissan dealer and being quoted $600 for radiator and heater hoses. I ended up buying them from the z store in the US, and got them for about $200. When I opened them, they had a made in Australia sticker on them.
Tim, have you adjusted the timing belt yet? If you haven't done it, you might want to consider putting in the cam gears from your old car. I remember the hole for the pin in the cam gears were a little worn.
Also are you sure its not an LSD? I remember you asked me if it had a viscous LSD, that was only on the US SS (or Shiro) model. As far as I knew, it was a clutch type LSD. If it no longer works as an LSD, maybe the clutch is worn. Strange that we go smaller sway bars here too.
I am still looking for a supra, but I am going overseas soon and probably won't get one until I get back. I am moving back to Brisbane then, so that should make it easier. Its a bit hard trying to get around Australia to look at cars when I'm stuck in Tasmania.
Good work with the car, keep posting on your updates. |

Boost sensor?dunno what drugs ur on man...lol.Boost is on 4mmhg or whatever the stock boost gauge language is with a manual controller...
Slade, havnt put my turbo or anything on it yet because im going to register it first and all that crap..Then i can go do all that, dont wanna do all the work and then not get roadworthied for whatever reason..lol.Registration will hopefully happen this week, pending on if i need to install a muffler on the exhaust or not.
Ill have to take off the diff cover and have a look in there,if its an open diff i mite try putting in a 180sx lsd again.Didnt work last time because i had the wrong halfshafts..Should have kept the damn thing..
Timing belt i havnt done yet,the timing gears are going with the other car because im leaving the engine in there.Only reason i was going to keep it was incase the engine in this car was a little sick but its perfect so dont need a spare..Ill make a trip to the wreckers and get a set of gears.I designed an adjustable cam timing system a while ago in CAD that i might try to get done at the same time.
But yeh,ill keep you up to date on whats going on. |

Yeah, disconnect that and your car will run exactly the same except the boost gauge won't work.
Stock boost on an Australian z31 is about 7psi (about 360mmHg). To increase boost, you need to remove the pop off valve (POV, not to be confused with a BOV, z31's don't have those), and install a manual/electronic boost controller.
12psi is considered a safe boost level by most, higher than that and there is a risk of detonation unless an intercooler is used. I think it is around 14.5psi when the injectors reach maximum duty, which means you will run lean and increase the risk of detonation further. |

Hey Tim,
That looks like how I had it planned. Have you considered plating over the idle controls, or venting the breather to atmoshere? Might save a bit of welding anyway. I think there are actually 2 idle control devices, one on each side of the intake plenum, so you will need to weld 2 bungs. I can't quite remember the reason why it uses 2, seems strange to me. I think the passenger side one allows the regular idle speed to be adjusted and the other one controls the higher idle speed from cold start up. The one on the drivers side is fed by an air hose that runs around the back of the engine through the larger of the steel pipes.
There is no real good reason to get rid of idle control, but it does clear up the engine bay a bit. Did your old car have a BOV that you can put in?
Have you loosened that timing belt yet? Sounds a bit tight in the video.
So I guess you got that electrical problem sorted out. How did you fix that?
I just got back to Australia last Thursday, and will be living in Brisbane again. I will continue looking for a supra soon, and probably visit an importer next weekend to get something shipped in. Private sales have just been a pain in the arse so far.
If you got any stories or pictures from targa Tasmania, send me an email

Yeh,timing belt still needs to be loosened off a little.Ill do that tomorrow beacuse the cooler pipes have to come off anyway to get to it..Other car didnt have a BOV, but i like the sound of the dose so i might keep it.Grabs alot of attention down the main street..lol..Wouldnt really expect it from a 20 year old car.Targa was freakin shithouse, boring as hell it is down there. How did you survive that long?lol..We came 22nd outright in a CV8 monaro. Was 300 competitors so not too shabby..
